About the meeting – Yangsheng Meeting: health – movement – change

This years topic will be:

Gao shan – High mountains

What is a mountain? A mountain is piled up on the earth and reaches up into the sky. It can be seen from far away, winds playing around it and on some days it is covered in clouds. A high mountain symbolizes the limits of human power – man, living on the earth and using his own power, can reach but the summit.

Now, not everybody is a climber. One loves the mountains, the other lovers the sea.
But how does the water reach the sea? How does water become a lively river? High montains and flowing water require each other – they build a harmonic entity.

高山流水 Gao Shan Liu Shui – High mountains, Flowing water

Climbing a mountain thus is also always an end in itself – a journey – for the view, for the experience that what was difficult before becomes easier when you face a challenge. The ways of climbing a mountain are as diverse as the wanderers who give it a try: enjoying the trip, looking forward to getting a view of the valley from above or searching stillness in the movement of ascending.

As there are many mountains on earth, there are many mountains in life – things one always wanted to work on: Finding a way to live a more fulfilling life or the right balance between life and work, developing relationships and communication skills or discovering new aspects of the Chinese arts… There is a whole world out there waiting to be discovered.

But why bother to make such an effort and strive for the heights? A high mountain is an inhospitable place and surely life is what takes place in the valley? – Yet, on the other hand: the place to forget the self, to regain calmness, to experience silence – that is the world of the mountains. Reflexion, detached contemplation, meditation – all this lies beyond our daily routines.

For this year’s Yangsheng Meeting, we asked the teachers to come up with workshop themes that represent „their“ mountains – approaches, forms and tools they have been working on half their lives or even the better part of it. – This year’s program is built around the answers we got.

So what is in it for you? – Many workshop choices and one question:

What is your mountain?

We cordially invite you to join us in the Yangsheng Meeting 2019 to dance with this question – moving, playing, experimenting, diving into ancient Chinese philosophy and calligraphy – and looking forward to having a cup of tea and a chat with other friends of the Chinese arts.
